How to Align Your Drawings

The basic procedure for overlaying documents is to select the files you want to compare, choose three alignment points within the drawing content of each file, then use Overlay Pages Revu Overlay Pages Icon to create a new file that contains separate layers. To ensure that the alignment points you select will accurately overlay those files, you should enable Snap to Content Revu Snap To Content Icon, and make sure your alignment points are chosen in the correct order, as described below:

  1. Add the files you’re comparing to the Overlay Pages dialog box:
    • If the documents are already open, you can go to Document > Overlay Pages Revu Overlay Pages Icon and the dialog box will automatically list the files when it opens.
If you have additional files open, you can add them by clicking Add Open Files.
    • If the files aren’t already open, you can go to Document > Overlay Pages Revu Overlay Pages Icon and click Add in the dialog box. This lets you locate and select the first of the files you want to compare. To add the rest of the documents, click Add again and repeat the process for each file.
To add a specific region of a drawing instead of the entire page, go to Document  > Overlay Pages > Modify. From the dialog box, click Select Region and click and drag your mouse across the area of the drawing that you want to include in the overlay. Click OK.
  2. Choosing Your Alignment Points:
When setting alignment points, it’s important to choose the same three points in the same order for each drawing. To ensure accuracy, you should switch on Snap to Content Revu Snap To Content Icon from the Status Bar or by using keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Shift+F10.

    1. If Snap to Content is enabled, click Align Points in the Overlay Pages dialog box, and select three locations in the first drawing. Now, the next drawing will open, allowing you to select the same three points in the same order.
Ideally, you should select the alignment points within the actual drawing content instead of clicking three corners of the surrounding border.
    2. Click OK in the Overlay Pages dialog box.

Once the process is complete, a new and properly aligned file called “Overlay” will open.
