Problem

One of the following error messages appears after select the Manage Pages button in the Bluebeam Administrator:

  • Error synchronizing changes to the page sizes! User must have Administrator permissions to add forms to the printers!
  • Error saving changes to page size file! User must have Administrator permission to add forms to printers!
  • Write Access Error. Printer page size is read only… Cannot save changes!

Solution

These error messages can appear for different reasons. Follow the steps below to resolve these errors.

These steps must be performed as the Windows Administrator. If you don’t have access to an account with administrator permissions, you’ll need to contact your IT administrator.

The Bluebeam PDF printer is not installed.

Reinstall the Bluebeam PDF printer:
  1. From the Windows start menu, enter Bluebeam Software. Right-click Bluebeam Administrator, and select Run as Administrator.
  2. In the Bluebeam Administrator, select the Printer tab.
  3. If the Name field is blank, select Reinstall Printer.

The prtPages.xml file is corrupt.

You’ll need to locate and rename the prtPages.xml file in File Explorer so that the Bluebeam Administrator will create a new one. To rename and replace prtPages.xml:
  1. From the Windows start menu, enter Bluebeam Software. Right-click Bluebeam Administrator, and select Run as Administrator.
  2. In the Bluebeam Administrator, select the Net Config tab.
  3. Double-click the folder path for the Printer Driver. This opens the folder containing the prtPages.xml file.
  4. Right-click the prtPages.xml file, select Rename, and change the file name to prtPages.old.xml.
  5. Return to the Bluebeam Administrator, and select the Printer tab.
  6. Select Manage Pages.
  7. In the Printer Page Manager dialog, select Add.
  8. In the Form Name box, enter Test.
  9. Select OK. A new prtPages.xml file will populate in File Explorer.
  10. In the Printer Page Manager dialog, navigate to the bottom of the Form Name list, and select the Test configuration you created earlier.
  11. Select Delete.
  12. In the confirmation window, select Yes.
  13. Select OK in the Printer Page Manager dialog.
  14. Select Reinstall Printer.
  15. Select OK.

Write Access Error

This means the current user account doesn’t have permission to add or change a printer. To resolve the issue, you’ll need to either contact your request permissions from your IT administrator to change a printer, or log in to Windows using an account with sufficient permissions and add the new page sizes.

This issue can also occur if the current user account doesn’t have write permissions for the prtPages.xml file. To resolve this issue, ask your IT administrator to change the permissions of that file.
