Revu 20 & Below Licensing FAQ

Bluebeam has transitioned to a subscription-based platform. In addition to Bluebeam Revu 21, subscribers get access to Bluebeam Cloud, our web/mobile markup and PDF management solutions. With a Bluebeam Plan, admins can manage named-user licenses, rather than lists of serial numbers. For more information about our transition to subscription, visit our Bluebeam Subscription FAQ. To purchase, see our pricing page.

While Revu 20 is still supported, Revu 2019 & below are now End of Life (EOL).

Legacy License Type Comparison

Bluebeam no longer offers these license types.

The three license types for Revu 20 & below are Perpetual licenses, Enterprise licenses, and Open licenses. Here’s a quick overview of each:

  • Access Revu from a shared pool of seats (one seat per active user)

  • View and revoke licenses using our online admin portal, the Bluebeam Gateway

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Revu license types

What’s the difference between a seat and a license?

A seat refers to an individual user of Revu. You can think of a license as the umbrella under which seats are housed. Most companies have one Revu license and buy individual seats for each user under that license.

Do any of the Revu 20 license types run on Mac?

Unfortunately, no. All editions of Revu run on Windows, regardless of license type. However, our new subscription offerings include access to Bluebeam Cloud, a series of solutions that allows you to access, mark up, and complete entire workflows through any computer’s web browser, including those running on Mac.

How are Perpetual licenses registered?

When you purchase a Perpetual license, you’ll receive an email with a serial number and product key that you’ll use to register seats of Revu to individual devices.

I still have questions about Revu 20 license types.

If you’re an IT admin and have technical questions, check out our admin guide and Gateway guide.

Installation, registration, and upgrades

Are there any installation prerequisites?

Please refer to the Bluebeam Revu Compatibility Chart to confirm that the version of Revu you want to install is compatible with the operating system and associated software on your computer.

How do I install and register Revu?

After you’ve purchased the software, you’ll receive a License Certificate which includes your serial number and product key used to register Revu. Please follow the instructions in the Revu Installation Guide to complete the software installation and registration.

I already own a license and need to re-download an older version of Revu.

We have older versions of Revu available to download here.

I want to upgrade my license to Revu 21.

If you’re a license admin, check out our article on how to upgrade.

License management

I need my product key.

If you can’t find your product key, please reach out to your license admin (typically the person who purchased Revu or your IT administrator). If you need the license re-sent to that person, please contact us.

How can I find what license type I have in Revu 20 & below?

To identify your license type in Revu 20 & below, check your serial number:

  • Perpetual license numbers begin with 1###### (ex: 1334567).
  • Enterprise licenses begin with 980#### (ex: 9804567).
  • Open licenses begin with 960#### (ex: 9604567).

If you’re using Revu 21, you have a Bluebeam Subscription license.

Can you manage my license over the phone?

No. While we do offer support for licensing over the phone, due to the time involved, the following requests can only be performed via email through our contact form:

  • Releasing seats
  • Upgrade or downgrade versions/editions
  • Change primary or secondary contacts
Is there a way to release seats from my Revu license(s)?

If you have Enterprise or Open license(s), your Gateway admin can revoke computers and view usage data in our online administrative portal, the Bluebeam Gateway.

For more information, check out our Gateway User Guide.

If the device is no longer working and you’re the license admin, please contact us.

I receive an error message when trying to register. What does it mean?

Below are the most common error messages you might see during the registration process. Click the message to view its solution.

If you’re the license admin, refer to the License Key Lookup to verify you have enough seats available.

Deployment and administration

What is the Bluebeam Gateway?

The Bluebeam Gateway is an online admin portal available for licenses with active Maintenance. Gateway admins (also called license admins) can make changes to their Bluebeam accounts, manage other Gateway admins, and more. For more information, check out our Gateway User Guide.

I’m having issues accessing my account or license in the Gateway.

Please contact us.

I need a list of all the licenses for my company’s account.

If you’re a license admin with Maintenance, you can log in to the Gateway to view license information. You can also see a list of registered computers for a specific license here. If you’re unable to find your list, please contact us.

I need to transfer a seat from one device to another.

If the device is no longer working and you’re the license admin, please contact us.

With a Bluebeam subscription plan, there’s no need to transfer seats; users can simply sign into Revu 21 on a different device.

I’m having issues accessing my account or license in the Gateway.

Please contact us.

No. While we do offer support for licensing questions over the phone, the following requests can be performed only by email through our contact form:

  • Releasing seats
  • Upgrade or downgrade versions/editions

Can I deploy Revu using Microsoft Configuration Manager or Group Policy across my network?
