Problem

Editing a flattened PDF prevents all markups from being unflattened.

Cause

Markups cannot be unflattened because editing a PDF’s page content changes the flattened markups. When flattening markups in Revu, please be aware that the following commands, if executed on a page containing flattened markups, will prevent all markups on the page from being unflattened:

  • Edit Text
  • Search and Replace
  • Erase Content
  • Cut Content
  • Repair Page Content
  • Color Processing
  • Redaction
  • Reduce File Size

Solution

If you intend to use these commands to edit a PDF that contains flattened markups, be sure to unflatten your markups prior to executing the commands. You can then re-flatten your markups afterwards. This will keep your markups recoverable.

Flattening Form Fields is always permanent. They cannot be unflattened under any circumstances.

To learn more about flattening / unflattening markups, see Flattening Markups in the Revu Help Guide.
