Backward compatibility
This article applies to:
- Revu 20 & below
When working across different versions of Revu, all of your markups and tools remain backward-compatible. For example when sending a document edited in Revu 20 to a colleague using Revu 2019. However, there are a few differences to keep in mind when using Revu 20 and working across different versions.
Hexagon Markups
In Revu 20, Hexagon is now an available shape for text-based markups. Hexagon-shaped markups from Revu 20 will render (appear) in earlier versions of Revu but, if edited, will revert to a rectangular shape. Similarly, if a toolset with a Hexagon-shaped markup is exported from Revu 20 into an earlier version of Revu, the markup will appear as a Rectangle markup.
Leader Lines
In Revu 20, you can add multiple leader lines from all sides of a callout or textbox markup.
Markups with multiple leader lines will render in earlier versions of Revu, however, you will only be able to add additional leader lines from the top-right elbow of an existing leader line, as show below. In addition, if you delete all leader lines from a text/callout markup, you will not be able to re-add any leader lines back onto the markup.
Measurement Line Styles
In earlier versions of Revu, measurement markups had only 6 standard line styles available. In Revu 20, measurement tools, including sketch to scale, now have the same custom line style options available as regular markups. Additionally, cutouts can also use custom line styles.
Here are some things to keep in mind when exporting measurement line styles made in Revu 20 to earlier versions:
- Line styles will render in earlier versions of Revu, as well as third-party applications, but will revert to a basic line style when edited.
- Custom measurement line styles made in Revu 20 will not be available for use with measurement tools in earlier versions.
- Toolsets containing measurements with custom line styles will revert back to a solid line style in earlier versions of Revu.
Most markups and functionality remain backward-compatible across Revu versions. If you are just upgrading to Revu 20, see Using the Find Feature to find all your favorite tools and commands from earlier versions.
