Creating and Editing Markups

Markups provide a method for annotating your PDF. They are part of the PDF, but not part of the underlying content. Because of this they can be moved and edited much more readily than the PDF content. Markups are always separate from the content of the PDF, but they can be associated with different layers if desired. Throughout this documentation the terms "annotation" and "markups" may be used interchangeably.

The tools to create and edit markups can be found in the Tools menu, in the Text and Shapes toolbars, and in the Tool Chest panel. In addition, most markup tools have convenient keyboard shortcuts, many of which can be customized; see Customizing Keyboard Shortcuts for more information. Each time a markup tool is selected and used it is stored in the Recent Tools section of the Tool Chest panel for easy reuse.

For detailed reference for each tool, see Tools and Toolbars.
