File Menu

The File menu contains commands associated with creating new PDFs, including creating them from other files, as well as opening existing PDFs and saving changes made to them. There are also commands related to emailing, exporting, and printing PDFs. It is accessed by clicking File on the Menu bar.

New PDF: Creates a new blank PDF.

New PDF from Template: Shows a selection of existing templates that can be used to create a new PDF as well as commands related to managing PDF templates.

Open (CTRL+O): Invokes the Open dialog box, from which you can open one or more PDFs in Revu. Other formats that may be opened and converted to PDF include; TIF, JPG, PNG, GIF and BMP files.3D PDF files can be created from U3D and IFC files.

Open Recent: Shows a list of recently opened PDFs for easy reopening.

New Studio Project: Starts a new Studio Project. If you're not currently logged into Studio, you will be prompted to log in first.

Create: Contains commands to create PDFs from a variety of sources:

From File (CTRL+N): Creates a PDF from a single file.

From Multiple Files: Batch-creates one or more PDFs from multiple files.

From Scanner or Camera: Creates a file from a scanner or camera.

Layered PDF: Combines multiple PDFs into one layered PDF.

PDF Package:Creates a new, empty PDF Package.

Combine: Combines multiple PDFs into a single PDF.

Close (CTRL+F4): Closes the active tab.

Close All (CTRL+SHIFT+W): Closes all tabs.

 Save (CTRL+S): Saves the active PDF file.

Save As (CTRL+SHIFT+S): Saves the active PDF as another file name and/or to a different location. A Save As dialog box will prompt for a new name, file type, and location to store the file.

Save All (SHIFT+F2): Saves all currently open files that have unsaved changes.

Note: Printing is temporarily disabled while a document is being saved.

Revert As: Rolls back to a previously saved version of the PDF.

Publish As: Removes all previous revision history from the PDF such that only one version of the file will exist. There are two benefits to publishing a file:  others cannot see or save previous revisions of the file, and publishing the PDF can help to reduce the file size. There are multiple ways to Publish As:

  • Flattened (CTRL+ALT+F): This option puts all markups permanently into the content stream. If there are previous revisions stored within the PDF, they will be removed.
  • Publish as Compressed 1.5 (CTRL+SHIFT+P): This option automatically compresses bitmap images and removes some non-visible document data, reducing the file size of the PDF. If there are previous revisions stored within the PDF, they will be removed.
  • Publish as Uncompressed: This is the normal PDF format. If there are previous revisions stored within the PDF, they will be removed; otherwise the PDF is saved normally.

Email (CTRL+E): Opens a new email message with the current PDF attached in your default email program. The PDF must be saved before sending.

Email Templates: Shows a selection of existing email templates that can be used to send the current PDF attached to an email through your default email program as well as tools to manage email templates.

Export: Contains several tools for exporting the current PDF as different types of files, including:

PDF/A: Exports the PDF as an archive (PDF/A) file.

TIFF, JPEG, PNG, GIF, and BMP: Exports the PDF as the selected image file type.

Text, RTF, and HTML: Exports the PDF as the selected text file type.

Word Document, Excel Document, and PowerPoint Document: Exports the PDF as the selected Microsoft Office file type.

Print (CTRL+P): Opens the Print dialog box.
