View Mode vs. Markup Mode
Applies to:
- Revu 20
Understanding the two modes
Revu 20 offers two operating modes: View Mode and Markup Mode. You can switch between View Mode and Markup Mode from the Revu menu anytime you need to change your access level. Each mode serves different purposes depending on your license type and needs.
Markup Mode
Markup Mode gives you full access to all Revu features available in your edition. This is the standard mode for licensed users.
View Mode
View Mode provides limited functionality and is primarily intended for:
-
Users with unregistered copies of Revu
-
Open License users who want to free up a seat in the license pool
In View Mode, you can perform the following:
-
View documents
-
Use Measurement tools
-
Join Studio Sessions and Projects
-
Use MultiView and MultiView Extended
-
Access Presentation mode
-
Switch between Profiles
Benefits of View Mode
View Mode serves two primary purposes depending on your situation.
For unregistered users, View Mode allows you to continue using basic Revu features after your trial expires, at no cost. You'll still have access to essential viewing and Studio access without purchasing a license.
For Open License users, View Mode helps optimize your organization's license usage. When you work in View Mode, you don't occupy a seat in your license pool, making it available for colleagues who need full editing capabilities. If all seats in your Open License pool are already in use when you open Revu, the application will automatically start in View Mode to preserve available licenses.
Limitations of View Mode
The following actions are disabled in View Mode regardless of your permissions:
- Creating new PDFs
- Adding files to a Session
- Saving copies of Session files
- Adding markups to a PDF outside of a Session
Additionally, unregistered users won't be able to add digital signatures to PDFs in View Mode.
When not working in a Studio Session, most tools will appear grayed out and certain menus (like the Document menu) won't be available.
