The Markups List features a variety of columns that can be sorted, reordered, and customized to fit your project needs. After creating a custom column, you can save it to a Profile or PDF, and share it with others. In this article, we'll discuss the best practices for saving and sharing custom columns. Where should I save my custom columns?

Revu allows you to save custom columns in two places: a Profile or a PDF. Where you save a custom column depends on what you plan to do with your PDF. The table below offers an overview of the differences between saving a custom column to a PDF or a Profile.

Save to PDF

This option saves the custom column to an individual PDF, and the custom column becomes part of the PDF content. If you upload the PDF to a Session or send it to a colleague, the custom column will go with it.

Consider this option if:

  • You're going to upload the PDF to a Session.

  • You're going to share this PDF with others and want them to see or interact with the columns.

Save to Profile

This option saves the custom column to a Profile in Revu, and the column becomes available whenever that Profile is active. The column will not become part of the PDF content unless you add a markup to the PDF and save it.

Consider this option if:

  • You want this column to appear in the Markups List when that Profile is active.
  • You’d like to use this custom column again.

Save custom columns to a PDF

Custom columns are saved to a PDF when you go to File > Save as long as there is at least one markup on the PDF.

To save a custom column from the Markups List :

  1. Go to Markups List > Columns > Manage columns.
  2. In the Custom Columns tab, select Add.
  3. Create your column, then select OK.
  4. Save the PDF.

Save custom columns to a Profile

If you’re working with a PDF that has custom columns that you want to reuse, you can save the columns to your active Profile. The custom column will be available whenever that Profile is active.

If an active Profile has custom columns saved to it and you open a PDF that includes its own custom columns, the columns in the PDF will override those in the active Profile.

To save custom columns to a Profile from the Markups List :

  1. Go to Markups List > Columns > Manage Columns.
  2. Select the Custom Columns tab.
  3. Select the custom column you want to save.
  4. Select Save to Profile.

Upload custom statuses to a Session

Only subscribers with Bluebeam Core and Complete plans can create custom statuses

If you want the custom statuses to appear in the Markups List, always save them to the PDF before uploading it to a Session.

Save custom columns from a Profile to a PDF

To save the custom columns from a Profile to a PDF, simply place a markup on the PDF and save it. If you've been working in this Profile and previously placed markups on the PDF, the columns should already be saved to the PDF.

If you didn't place any markups while working in that Profile, the custom columns won't transfer to the PDF.

Switch Profiles

Custom columns that are saved to a PDF will always override columns in a Profile. If you prefer to use the custom columns from the active Profile, first delete any custom columns on the PDF. The custom columns from the Profile are ready to use once you see them appear in the Markups List.
