Customize keyboard shortcuts
Revu makes use of several keyboard shortcuts to facilitate speedy operation. In many cases, these keyboard shortcuts are logical and even common, but in some cases, it might be desirable to customize these shortcuts.
Keyboard shortcuts are divided into two groups: Tools and Commands.
- Tools: Contains functions related to Markups, Measurements, Sketch to Scale, and Forms features.
- Commands: Contains other functions.
Viewing keyboard shortcuts can be a useful exercise for multiple reasons, notably for learning what shortcuts are currently in use for specific functions and for determining whether or not a given keyboard shortcut is available for assignment to a function.
-
Go to Revu > Keyboard Shortcuts.
- Select the Tools or Commands tab to scan for current keyboard shortcuts.
To find the current keyboard shortcut for a specific function, enter it in the Search field.
-
To determine whether a certain keyboard shortcut is currently in use, select any function, then select inside the Shortcut field and press the desired shortcut keys on the keyboard. The keyboard shortcut entered will appear in the Shortcut field and, if that particular keyboard shortcut is already in use, a warning will appear below. This warning will also specify to which function the shortcut is currently assigned.
In some cases, the shortcut will be reserved. These shortcuts cannot be reassigned.
If no warning appears, the keyboard shortcut is not currently in use.
- To generate a list of keyboard shortcuts, go to Export > List as .txt, then navigate to a local or network drive and save the file.
There are two ways to customize the keyboard shortcuts used by Revu: importing a new keyboard shortcut map, which allows for changing all keyboard shortcuts at the same time, and manually changing individual shortcuts one at a time.
Keyboard shortcut maps are stored as XML files. If you are going to import a new keyboard shortcut map, it is recommended that you start with the current XML file as a baseline to ensure that the proper formatting is used.
-
Go to Revu > Keyboard Shortcuts.
- To export the current keyboard shortcut map as an XML file, go to Export > Settings, then navigate to a local or network drive and save the file.
- To import a new keyboard shortcut map from an XML file, select Import and navigate to the file.
- Select OK.
This process is recommended when changing a limited number of keyboard shortcuts. To make more wholesale changes to the keyboard shortcut map, see Import/Export a keyboard shortcut file.
-
Go to Revu > Keyboard Shortcuts.
- Select the Tools or Commands tab.
- Select the function with the shortcut you want to change.
To find the current keyboard shortcut for a specific function, enter it in the Search field.
-
When a function is selected, its current keyboard shortcut, if any, is shown in the Shortcut field. Select inside this field and enter the keyboard shortcut you want to use. If that particular keyboard shortcut is already in use, a warning will appear below it. This warning will also specify to which function the shortcut is currently assigned.
In some cases, the shortcut will be reserved. These shortcuts cannot be reassigned.
- If no warning appears, the keyboard shortcut is not currently in use and can be assigned to this function. Select Reassign for functions that currently have a keyboard shortcut assigned to them or Add for those that do not.
- Select OK.
