Unsupported characters in Studio

Applies to:

  • Revu 20
Support for Studio Prime will reach End of Life on December 25, 2025. For more information, see Bluebeam End of Life (EOL) Support.

Problem

In Studio, you're unable to use certain characters when naming a new session, project, folder, or file. For example, you're unable to create a Studio Session with a / (forward slash) in the name. However, changing the character to an & (ampersand) will work.

Solution

Studio only accepts characters supported in the Windows file structure. Here's a list of unsupported characters in Studio, so you can better standardize your naming conventions in Sessions and Projects:

  • < (less than)
  • > (greater than)
  • : (Colons are accepted, but should be avoided as they may interfere with some NTFS filesystems)
  • " (double quote)
  • / (forward slash)
  • \ (backslash)
  • | (vertical bar or pipe)
  • ? (question mark)
  • * (asterisk)
The above unsupported characters also apply to all available Studio Prime integrations.
