Format Painter
The Format Painter lets you quickly copy appearance settings from one markup and apply them to others. It remembers the last source you used, so you can keep applying the same formatting until you pick a new source.
Format Painter can copy a wide range of properties, including color, line width, opacity, line style, hatch pattern, start and end points for lines, and font settings like type, style, size, alignment, margins, underline, and strikethrough. It checks which properties it can apply to your selected markups and updates only those.
You can use Format Painter across different types of markups—even if they aren't the same kind. However, it only changes how the markup looks. It won't affect the subject or label of the markup you're updating.
- Select the markup with the characteristics you want to copy.
- Select Edit >
Format Painter. - Select a markup to apply the formatting, or click and drag to select several markups.
The Format Painter handles grouped markups differently. Some properties may transfer in a different way when you use it on groups.
If you use a certain format often, add it to the Tool Chest for quick access. You can apply formatting from Tool Chest markups in two ways:
Method A:
- Right-click the markup tool in the Tool Chest with the formatting you want.
Select Paint Format.
- Select the target markup(s) in your PDF.
Method B:
- Double-click the markup tool in the Tool Chest to enter Properties Mode (or select it if already in Properties Mode).
- Select Edit >
Format Painter. - Select the target markup(s) in the PDF.
If you would like to change the properties for multiple markups, another convenient method is to select markups in the Markups list and then apply the formatting.
To update several markups at once using the Markups List, follow these steps:
- Select the source markup.
- Select Edit >
Format Painter. - Open the Markups list and select the markups you want to format.
- Right-click one of the selected markups and click Paint.
