Legends overview

What is a legend?
Just like a legend on a map, Legends quickly explain what the symbols on a drawing represent. They can also be customized to show important information about the markups in a document.
Legends will automatically update as markups are added to or removed from the document. Like any markup, they can be resized, copied, customized and saved to the Tool Chest.
If you're using Revu 21, you must have a Core or Complete subscription plan to create Legends.
Adding tool sets to a legend
Legends can be created from a particular tool set or tool sets. Legends automatically update when a new markup from a specified tool set is placed on the document.
It's a good idea to anticipate which tool sets you'll be using, and add those to a legend before marking up a document.
- Go to Window > Panels > Tool Chest. Alternatively, press Alt+X to open the Tool Chest.
- You can create a new legend, or add the markups to an existing legend.
- To create a new legend:
Right-click on any of the annotations, then click Legend > Create New Legend. - To add to an existing legend:
Select the name of the legend from the Legend menu mentioned above.
- To create a new legend:
- If you are creating a new legend, click the document to place the legend.
Adding markups to a legend individually
A legend can be created from a manual selection of markups on the document. Once you add a markup to a legend, any markups with the same type and appearance properties are automatically added to the legend as well.
- Click the markups you need in the legend. To select multiple markups, either click and drag around them, or use Shift + Click on each markup.
- You can now create a new legend, or add the markups to an existing legend.
- Create a new legend:
Right-click on any of the annotations, then click Legend > Create New Legend. - Add to an existing legend:
Select the name of the legend from the Legend menu mentioned above.
- Create a new legend:
- If you are creating a new legend, click the document to place the legend.
Title your legend
Once your legend has been placed on the document, you may want to give it a unique title, especially if you are working with multiple legends on the same document.
- Click the Title button in the Properties Toolbar at the top of the screen.
- In the drop-down menu, locate the Title field.
- Edit the text in this field, then click anywhere else on the screen to close the menu and save your title.
Display pertinent information with columns
By enabling and disabling certain columns, you can use your legends to display important information about the markups in a document. You can use columns to display the number of markups on a page, measurement values, page location, markup type, and more.
- Click the legend you want to edit.
- Go to the Columns menu in the Properties Toolbar at the top of the page.
- Click the Edit Columns button.
- You will now be able to display and remove any columns from the selected legend using the checkboxes.
Properties
Because a legend is a type of markup, it can be customized extensively via the Properties panel or toolbar. If you are used to customizing your markups, you will be familiar with the options listed here. There are also a few properties that are unique to legends. For more information, see Changing a Legend's Appearance in the Revu Help Manual.
Saved legends
After configuring the properties of the legend to include the information you need, you can save it to the Tool Chest so you can quickly reuse it on another page or document.
- To add a legend to the Tool Chest:
Right-click the legend, then click Add to Tool Chest and select the desired tool set. - To add a saved legend to a document:
Click the Legend from the Tool Chest, then click the area where you want to place it.
