Embed images and videos into markups

Applies to:

  • Revu 21

Make your markups more useful by adding images and video. This article shows you how to embed media from your camera or from a file, review what you've added, and manage your embedded content.

Add an image or video from your camera

  1. Right-click the markup and select Capture > From Camera.
  2. In the camera preview, select Photo for images or Video for videos.
  3. Select the Shutter icon for photos or the Lens icon for videos to capture your media.
  4. Select Use to embed your photo or video in the markup. To try again, select Retake.

Once you embed media, it's named after the markup's subject, with a number added if you capture more than one. To see what you've added, select the embedded media icon just below your markup or in the Capture column of the Markups list.

Embedded media isn't visible directly on the PDF; it opens in a pop-up viewer.

Markups with embedded media can't be grouped.

If you flatten the PDF or add the markup to the Tool Chest, the embedded media will be lost.

Add an image from a file

If you already have a photo or video saved, you can embed it in a markup in two ways:

Use the context menu

  1. Right-click the markup.
  2. Select Capture > From File.
  3. Use File Explorer to select your file.

Drag and drop

  1. Open Windows File Explorer to find your media file.
  2. Drag the file onto the markup.
Where you drop your media in the workspace will determine whether it embeds or opens as a tab. If you drop media within a markup, it embeds. If you drop media over a blank area, it opens as a new tab in Revu.

Work with embedded media

When a markup has embedded media, you'll see a media icon near its lower-right corner. Select it to open a preview window. Here's what you can do:

  • Add from camera: Capture and embed another photo or video.
  • Add from file: Embed another image from your files.
  • Markup image: Add markups to embedded images.
  • Previous/Next: Move through multiple embedded items.
  • Export: Save the current or all embedded images and videos to your device or network.
  • Delete: Remove the current image or video. If you delete by mistake, click away from the markup and select Edit > Undo to restore it.

If you're viewing a 360° photo (from supported hardware), you'll see a watermark in the corner. Click and drag to pan and spin, or use your mouse wheel to zoom. Toggle between 360° and flat views using the View 2D/View 360 button at the bottom of the image.

Add markups to images

In Revu 21.6 and later, you can add markups directly to embedded images. When you select Markup, the image opens in a separate tab. You can add markups to provide clarity to embedded images.

Tips and important notes

  • Embedded images and video are included in Markup Summaries and can be exported.
  • Older versions of Revu might not support viewing embedded media.
  • Flattening a PDF or adding a markup with embedded media to the Tool Chest will remove the media.
  • Markups with embedded media can't be grouped.
