Tools and menu items are disabled in Revu or Studio Sessions

In Revu 21, if you have a Basics subscription or Read-only access, you do not have access to all Revu 21 features.

If you have a Basics subscription, the only measurement tools available are Length and Area. Other measurement tools are disabled.

Non-subscribers (Read-only/Unpaid/Unassigned accounts) have limited access to markups and styles. For more information about working in Revu and Studio without a subscription, see How to work in Revu 21 without a subscription.

Contact your Org Admin to edit your account permissions for more access to features.

In Revu 20, regardless of user permissions, certain functions are unavailable in View Mode. Switch to Revu > Markup Mode to gain access to markup tools and the full Document menu.

If you don't have a Bluebeam plan, ask your account's Org Admin to check if you're assigned to a subscription plan. If you're an Org Admin, you'll need to assign yourself a Basics, Core, or Complete seat. See the Org Admin Guide for instructions on how to assign end user access.

Revu 20 is locked into View Mode if it's a trial or an unregistered installation. To access Markup Mode and full functionality, go to Revu > Register and enter the Serial Number and Product Key when prompted.

If this information isn't available, contact the license owner who received the license certificate via email.

When uploaded to a Studio Project or other DMS, the file needs to be checked out before you can make any changes. In Studio Projects, select the padlock in the file name tab and select Check Out. This will give you full access to the markup tools while preventing other users from overwriting your edits.

When a PDF is signed or certified, its content is locked to prevent further changes. To check for digital signatures or certifications, go to Window > Panels > Signatures. If your PDF is signed or certified, you'll need a previous version of the file to access markup tools and additional functions.

When certifying a document, an admin can permit markups, but this setting can't be altered after a document's been certified.

When working in a Session, you can place markups and create annotations on a document. However, any actions that can edit the document's content are disabled in Sessions and appear grayed out.

The following actions are disabled in Sessions:

• Add Bookmark

• Rotate Page

• Delete Page

• Replace Pages

• Custom statuses

• Custom columns

• Any other actions that edit document content

To perform these actions, move the document out of the Session and make your edits offline. When finished, you can re-upload the document to the Session. For more information, please see Can't make custom columns or statuses in a Session.

The Session host can restrict an Attendee's ability to save, print, or add markups to documents in the Session. If those menu items appear grayed out during a Session, the host likely didn't give you permission to perform those actions.

Ask the Session host to change your permissions.

If a password was enabled in the document properties, enter it upon opening the file.

If you don't know the password, reach out to the file admin. They can either provide the password or an unrestricted copy of the document so you can work on it.

If Revu was configured for a multi-user setting when installed, it may have been deployed with certain features disabled. Contact your IT administrator or department if functionality issues persist.

Some features may be grayed out even if you have a Core or Complete subscription (Revu 21 only) or if you are not viewing a file in Read-only or View mode. This issue occurs if the safe.enx file was not properly copied to your computer when you installed Revu.

The solution for this issue requires you to copy a file to a directory that is normally hidden in Windows File explorer. If you don't see C:\ProgramData in File Explorer, select the View tab, then select Hidden Items to reveal hidden folders and files.

To restore the safe.enx file, follow these steps:

1. Close Revu.
2. Download the safe.zip file.
3. Right-click the safe.zip file and select Extract All.
4. Use Windows File Explorer to navigate to the Features directory specific for your version of Revu:
   

   • C:\ProgramData\Bluebeam Software\Bluebeam Revu\20\Revu\Features

   • C:\ProgramData\Bluebeam Software\Bluebeam Revu\21\Revu\Features

   If you don't see the Features folder in the file path, create it by right-clicking within the Revu folder, selecting New > Folder, and naming the new folder "Features".
5. Copy the safe.enx file to the Features folder.
   
6. Start Revu.

When you configure a tool set to be visible in all profiles, Revu includes the tool set in each profile. This disables the Delete button to prevent you from accidentally removing a tool set that's used in another profile.

All newly created tool sets are configured to be visible in all profiles.

To delete a tool set that's visible in all profiles, follow these steps:

1. In the Tool Chest panel, select the Tool Chest dropdown, and click Manage Tool Sets.
2. Right-click the tool set and select Edit.
3. Clear the Show in All Profiles check box and select OK.
4. Right-click the tool set and select Delete.
