Note tool
The Note tool allows for placement of a pop-up text note on a document.
Notes and comment boxes do not print by default. To print notes, select Print Pop-Ups in the Markup Preferences.
- Select the Note tool using one of the following methods:
- Go to Tools > Markup >
Note. - Click
on the Text toolbar. - Press N on the keyboard.
- Go to Tools > Markup >
- Select a location on the document to place the Note. A Note icon is placed on the PDF and a pop-up window appears.
- Enter the content of the Note in the pop-up window. The pop-up window can be moved as desired.

To hide the Note pop-up window, select the X in its upper-right corner or press ESC. The Note pop-up window will appear the next time the Note icon is double-clicked.
To remove markups from your PDF, do one of the following:
- Select the markup on the PDF or from the Markups list.
- Press Delete on your keyboard, or right-click and select
Delete.
There are three ways to view the contents of a Note:
- Mouse over the Note icon to see a tool tip of the contents.
- Double-click the Note icon to bring up the pop-up window.
- See the Comments column in the Markups list for the Note markup.
You can add an action to almost any markup. Right-click the markup and select Edit Action.
Markups may display indicator icons below and to the right of the markup (or grouped markups). These include:
Action: Shows that an action is defined for this markup. Select to trigger the action.
Capture: Shows that the markup has embedded media (typically an image or video). Select this icon to open a preview window.
Reply: Shows one or more replies exist in the Markups list. Hover to preview replies or select to jump to the markup's entry. Turn off the ability to see reply indicators in the View menu.
The appearance of the Note icon placed on the document is configurable. The icon itself can be changed as well as its color and opacity.
To change the appearance of a Note icon, select the markup and select the Properties panel. Go to Window > Panels > Properties to show the Properties panel if it is hidden. Several properties will also be available on the Properties toolbar when the markup is selected.
Color: Sets the color of the Note icon and pop-up window.
Opacity: Sets the level of transparency of the Note icon.
Icon: Sets the shape of the Note icon.
