Measure tool
The Measure tool lets you create different types of measurements in your PDF. You can add measurements as markups for estimating and summarizing in the Markups list, or make them temporary, which is helpful when you just want a quick measurement without saving it to the document.
When you turn on the Measure tool, it uses the last measurement mode you selected. If you have not yet set the page scale, you will be prompted to do so when you place the first measurement. For more information about each measurement mode, check out the sections listed under Related topics.
Temporary measurements are often used for quick measurements or to add up several measurements without leaving a visual record on the PDF.
Use temporary measurements when you want a quick result that won't be saved to your document.
Before you begin: Make sure the document is calibrated.
- Select
Measure Tool on the Measure toolbar. - Select the measurement mode on the Measurements panel toolbar. By default, the most recently used measurement mode is enabled
- In the Measurements menu, make sure the Make Annotations from Measurements in not checked.
- Place your measurement.
See the individual mode sections for steps on Length, Area, Perimeter, Diameter, Angle, Radius (either Center-out or Three-point methods), Volume, and Count measurements.
If you haven't set the page scale, you'll be prompted to do so when you add your first measurement.
As you measure, a preview window in the lower-right corner shows the values. Select the X to hide it or the measure icon to bring it back. The measurement appears as a blue line with its value. It disappears after you take another action in Revu (select something else, place another measurement, and so on).
Measurement markups let you keep a permanent record on your PDF for takeoffs and later processing in the Markups list.
For more information about using the Measurement tool for takeoffs, see Takeoffs and Measuring.
Always make sure your document is properly calibrated before measuring.

When you've set the page scale, a preview of key measurement values appears in the lower-right corner as you place measurements to ensure precision. Hide or recall it as needed by selecting the X or the measure icon.
The measurement appears as a markup and show up in the Markups list. You can change its appearance on the Properties panel.
