Dynamic Fill
The Dynamic Fill tool automatically creates Spaces and measurement markups using shapes found on the content layer of a drawing. It recognizes shape boundaries and uses these to generate the following:
- Space
- Area Measurement
- Polylength Measurement
- Perimeter Measurement
- Volume Measurement
- Polygon Markup
The tool works only on the content layer. When activated, markups may be temporarily hidden from the view to simplify the process; this behavior can be managed in the Measure Preferences.
The Dynamic Fill tool allows you to create a Space or markup from any shape on the content layer. This process can involve the entire room or specific portions, thanks to the option to add temporary boundaries.
- Go to Tools > Measure >
Dynamic Fill.
- You may also select Dynamic Fill on the Measurements panel.
- To add a temporary boundary within the desired shape, select
Add Boundary, then select two or more points on the drawing. To finish drawing the boundary, double-click the last point.
- Temporary boundaries are useful when you want to extract only a portion of a room or shape. The temporary boundary prevents the Fill function from spreading beyond its border, but doesn't otherwise affect the drawing.
- Temporary boundaries don't need to be confined to a room or shape and can be applied freely anywhere in the drawing.
- Select Fill.
- Click and hold within the boundary of your chosen shape. The Dynamic Fill tool highlights the space, stopping when it reaches the boundaries or when you release the mouse button.
- To create markups from the highlighted shape, select one or more of the Create options::
- Space: Creates a Space. Assign a name, opacity, and color from the menu.
- Polygon Markup: Creates a Polygon markup using the current default properties or choose a markup of this type from your Tool Chest.
- Area Measurement: Creates an Area measurement using the current default properties or choose a markup of this type from your Tool Chest.
- Polylength Measurement: Creates a Polylength measurement using the current default properties or choose a markup of this type from your Tool Chest.
- Perimeter Measurement: Creates a Perimeter measurement using the current default properties or choose a markup of this type from your Tool Chest.
- Volume Measurement: Creates a Volume measurement using the current default properties or choose a markup of this type from your Tool Chest.
- Select Apply.
Tips
When using Fill, move the cursor while holding down the mouse button to highlight an area faster. Encircling an area this way automatically highlights everything within the described perimeter, even if that means crossing a boundary that would otherwise prevent it.
You can remove Dynamic Fill elements that haven't been used yet from the PDF. Select the desired option from the Clear Dynamic Fill menu on the Dynamic Fill toolbar.
- Clear All: Removes all unused boundaries and fills.
- Clear Fill: Removes unused fills only.
- Clear Boundaries: Removes unused boundaries only.
Default preferences for the Dynamic Fill tool reside in the Measure Preferences. You can also temporarily adjust these by selecting Dynamic Fill Settings on the Dynamic Fill toolbar. These changes last only while the toolbar remains open.
- Boundary Size: Set the cursor size when adding a boundary..
- Boundary Color: Choose the color for temporary boundaries.
- Fill Size: Set the cursor size when filling a shape.
- Fill Color: Choose the color when filling a shape..
- Fill Speed: Adjust how quickly the highlight spreads throughout the shape.
- Edge Sensitivity: Adjust detection sensitivity for shape boundaries. Modify this if boundaries are missed or extra boundaries are detected, especially when drawn lines have varying weights.
