Insert pages into a PDF
Use Insert Pages to pull pages from one or more pre-existing PDFs and insert them into the currently active PDF. Insert Blank Page creates new, blank pages and inserts them into the active PDF. The process discussed here inserts pages in a single PDF; see Batch Slip Sheet to insert pages in multiple documents at the same time.
PDF/A documents or documents that have been certified or digitally signed cannot have pages inserted.
- Open the PDF into which you want to insert pages. This process works on the currently active PDF.
-
Go to Document > Insert >
Pages from Document. -
Navigate to and select the file that is the source of the pages that will be inserted into the current PDF, then select Open. The Insert Pages dialog appears.
To insert pages directly from Windows Explorer, drag one or more PDFs into the Thumbnails panel and the Insert Pages dialog will appear with those files already added.
- To add other source files that are not currently open in Revu, select Add. The Select Files to Insert dialog reappears. Navigate to and select the file that is the source of the pages that will be inserted into the current PDF, then select Open.
To add source files that are currently open in Revu, select Add Open. All PDFs currently open in Revu will be added.
-
Pages will be inserted from PDFs in the order in which they are sorted. To change the sort order, follow these steps:
- Select
and select the desired sort option to sort the files automatically. - Select a file you wish to move and select either
to move it up in the list or
to move it down in the list to reorder the files in the list manually. - Select a file and select
to remove it from the list.
- Select
- By default, all pages of a given file will be inserted. To select specific pages in a source PDF to be inserted, follow these steps:
- Select the PDF and select Modify.
- Select Custom from the Pages dropdown menu and enter the pages to be inserted.
- Use a dash between page numbers to define those two pages and all pages in between.
- Use a comma to define pages that are separated.
For example, entering 1-3, 5, 9 will insert pages 1, 2, 3, 5, and 9.
Select OK.
-
Select the desired Options:
- Include Bookmarks: Add any bookmarks from the selected PDF files.
- Include File Attachments: Add any file attachments from the selected PDF files.
- Merge Document Properties: Combine the document properties of the existing and selected PDF files.
- Merge Layers: Keep all layer information in the PDFs. If not selected, the layers will be removed, but the content and markups in the layers will remain in the combined PDF.
- Use Filename as Page Label: By default, the page labels of the inserted pages are copied from the source PDFs. Select this to use the file names instead.
- Determine where the inserted pages will be placed:
- Select Before or After from the dropdown menu below the name of the PDF into which the pages are being inserted.
- Select First Page, Last Page, or specify a Page.
The combination of these two choices determines where the pages are inserted. So, selecting After and Last Page will insert the pages after the last page of the current PDF.
- Select Interleave Pages to cause the inserted pages to be weaved alternately into the existing pages, starting from the position determined in the previous step. This is useful when rejoining odd and even pages that were output separately, for example.
- Select OK.
To insert a blank page or a new page from a saved template, use the Insert Blank Page command.
- Open the PDF into which you wish to insert pages.
-
Go to Document > Insert >
Insert Blank Page. The Insert Blank Page dialog appears.
- To select a template for the new page(s), select it from the Template dropdown menu.
- To set a custom size, enter the Width and Height values.
- To define the orientation, select either Portrait or Landscape.
- To choose a grid style, select it from the Style dropdown menu.
- Enter the number of pages to insert in the Page Count field.
- To set this configuration as the default for future use, select Set as Default.
- Select OK.
