How to customize Revu keyboard shortcuts

Applies to:

  • Revu 20
  • Revu 2019
  • Revu 2018

In Revu, it’s easy to access certain tools and features using keyboard shortcuts. If you’d like to customize your workspace, you can edit default shortcuts and even import your own custom shortcuts onto another device with Revu installed.

In this article, we’ll go over how to customize your Revu keyboard shortcuts and how to share them via exporting/importing. To watch an overview about keyboard shortcuts, see this training video.

Edit keyboard shortcuts

  1. Open Revu.
  2. Go to Revu > Keyboard Shortcuts.
  3. Choose Tools or Commands from the top of the Keyboard Shortcuts dialog box and locate the feature(s) you’d like to update the keyboard shortcuts for.
  4. Select a desired Function and enter your new keyboard shortcut for it in the Shortcut field. If the shortcut is already taken or assigned, a message will appear asking whether you’d like to reassign the existing key or change the input for your custom shortcut. Shortcut Assigned Messaged
If you input a numerical shortcut, it will alert you that it’s already reserved. This is because numbers are used as hot keys for anything saved in My Tools in the Tool Chest.
  5. After assigning all your new shortcuts, click OK.

At any time, you can select Restore Defaults to revert to the original keyboard shortcuts.

Import a keyboard shortcut file

If you’d like to transfer your custom keyboard shortcuts to another computer and/or share them with another Revu user, you can easily export and import them. To get started, follow the steps below:

Keyboard shortcuts are saved in an XML file and can only be imported in this format.
  1. Open Revu.
  2. From the navigation bar, go to Revu > Keyboard Shortcuts.
  3. In the Keyboard Shortcuts dialog box, select Export > Settings. Keyboard Shortcuts Dialog
  4. Save the XML file to a local/network location you can easily access.
  5. Next, download the XML export to the new computer/device.
  6. On the new computer, open Revu.
  7. Go to Revu > Keyboard Shortcuts.
  8. Select Import and navigate to your XML export.
  9. Click Open.
  10. Select OK in the Keyboard Shortcuts dialog box to start using the imported shortcuts.
