Problem

  • PDF files cannot be created.
  • The Bluebeam PDF printer does not exist in the Administrator after installation.
  • Attempting to reinstall the printer notifies you that printer installation has failed.

Solution

Step 1

If you’re unable to create PDF files via the Bluebeam PDF printer or any other plugins, the first step is to verify that the Bluebeam PDF printer is installed.

Restart the Port Monitor and reinstall the printer.

  1. Open the Bluebeam Administrator.
    • Go to Start > All Programs > Bluebeam Software > Bluebeam Administrator.

In Windows 10 and 8.1, click or press Start and type Bluebeam Administrator.

      -Or-

Go to Help > Administrator in Revu.

  2. Click the Printer tab.
  3. If the printer Name field is blank, click the Reinstall Printer button.
  4. Click the Restart button.

Step 2

Use Administrator account to reinstall the printer. Your account may not have permission to install a printer or the printer install may succeed if login using a different account.

  1. Log out of Windows and login using the local administrator account.
  2. Start the Bluebeam Administrator.
  3. Click the Printer tab.
  4. Click the Reinstall Printer button.

Step 3

Restore the default system path. If the Bluebeam PDF printer still fails to install, check the system path in Windows. Windows will not install a printer if the file framedyn.dll is not in the Windows path. Microsoft provides an article that will walk you through checking the path and restoring the required folders to the path if they do not exist. The file framedyn.dll must be in the system path for a printer to successfully install. Some applications append the system path and can accidentally replace the path instead of appending it. The default system path has to be restored to solve the problem. Microsoft provides support article KB319114 on this issue, which includes a “Fix it” tool. To summarize the article:

  1. Check your system path. The default Windows system path starts with %SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;

    Windows 10 and 8.1:

    1. Press or click Start, type Edit the system environment variables and press enter. The System Properties dialog will display with the Advanced tab selected.
    2. Click the Environment Variables button and the Environment Variables dialog will display.
    3. In System variables section, select Path in the list and click Edit.
    4. Verify that %SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem; is at the beginning of the path.
    Windows 7 and Vista:
    1. Click Start, type User Account and press enter. The User Account window will open.
    2. Click Change my environment variables on the left. The Environment Variables dialog will display.
    3. In System variables section, select Path in the list and click Edit.
    4. Verify that %SystemRoot%\system32;%\SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem; is at the beginning of the path.
  2. Verify that the file framedyn.dll is located in the folder C:\Windows\System32.
    • If the file framedyn.dll cannot be found, please contact your local system administrator for assistance, or if you do not have access, you may be able to copy the file from a different system, or ultimately repair your Windows installation.
  3. Open the Bluebeam Administrator.
  4. Click the Printer tab, and then click Reinstall Printer.
