“Write Access Error. Printer page size is readonly….Cannot save changes!”

“Write Access Error. Printer page size is read-only.… Cannot save changes!”

Why is this Happening, and How Can I Fix the Problem?

These error messages can appear for different reasons:

  1. The Bluebeam PDF printer is not installed. Reinstalling the printer will solve the problem.
    • Open the Bluebeam Administrator.
      • Go to Start > All Programs > Bluebeam Software > Bluebeam Administrator.

In Windows 10 and 8.1, click or press Start and type Bluebeam Administrator.

        -Or-

Go to Help > Administrator in Revu.

    • Click the Printer tab.
    • If the Name field is blank, reinstall the printer.
      • Click the Reinstall Printer button.
      • Click OK when the “Printer install succeed” dialog box displays.
    • Click the Manage Pages button to add the new page sizes.
  2. The prtPages.xml file is corrupt. In this instance you’ll need to locate and rename the prtPages.xml file so a new file will be created:
    • Open the Bluebeam Administrator.
      • Go to Start > All Programs > Bluebeam Software > Bluebeam Administrator.

In Windows 10 and 8.1, click or press Start and type Bluebeam Administrator.

        -Or-

Go to Help > Administrator in Revu.

    • Click the Printer tab.
    • Right-click the Reinstall Printer button and click Uninstall Printer.
    • Click the Net Config tab.
    • Double-click the folder path for the Printer Driver or Managed Net Configuration. This opens the folder containing the prtPages.xml file.
    • Right-click on the prtPages.xml file, and change the name to prtPages-old.xml
    • Return to the Printer tab and click Reinstall Printer.
  3. If you’re seeing the Write Access Error, it means the current user account doesn’t have adequate permissions to add or change a printer.
    This means you’ll need to:

    • Contact your IT Administrator to have them give you permissions to change a printer.
    • Log in to Windows using an account that has permissions and add the new page sizes.
  4. Another reason for this issue is that the current user account doesn’t have write permissions to the prtPages.xml file.
To get this resolved, contact your IT Administrator to have them change the permissions.
To find the location of the prtPages.xml file:

    • Open the Bluebeam Administrator.
      • Go to Start > All Programs > Bluebeam Software > Bluebeam Administrator.

In Windows 10 and 8.1, click or press Start and type Bluebeam Administrator.

        -Or-

Go to Help > Administrator in Revu.

    • Click the Net Config tab.
    • Double-click the folder path for the Printer Driver or Managed Net Configuration. This opens the folder containing the prtPages.xml file.
    • Right-click on the prtPages.xml file, select Properties, and change the permissions.
    • Click Apply and OK on the File Properties dialog.
